Tree Climber

Job Summary

Tree Climbers are primarily responsible for cutting down, pruning, or trimming branches, leaves, and roots from trees to improve aesthetics and structural health, as well as limit damage and disease.

Responsibilities

  • Cut away dead, obstructive, or excess branches from trees and shrubbery.

  • Utilize chainsaws and work crews to cut down limbs safely.

  • Climb trees with safety devices to cut down branches and limbs properly. (MUST BE OK WITH HEIGHTS)

  • Prune or treat trees or shrubs using handsaws, pruning hooks, sheers, and clippers.

  • Remove debris and cart away large limbs for disposal.

  • Cut branches away from obstructions and power lines.

  • Cable, brace, tie, bolt, stake, and trees to provide support.

  • Utilize climbing equipment or buckets of extended truck booms, cranes, and/or chainsaws, hooks, handsaws, shears, and clippers.

  • Maintains tools and equipment by cleaning, sharpening, and lubricating.

  • Clear sites, streets, and grounds of woody and herbaceous materials, such as tree stumps, fallen trees, and limbs.

  • Spray and treat diseased trees.

  • Reshape trees to create aesthetically pleasing shapes.

  • Water and fertilize trees.

  • Apply tar or other sealants to cut surfaces to retain tree moisture.

  • Be willing to work with palms and all other varieties of desert trees

  • Adheres to all applicable safety rules and regulations.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of previous experience preferred (training is available)

  • Must be able to pass regular drug testing

  • ISA arborist certification preferred

  • Landscaping experience a plus

  • Familiar with power tools, including aerial lifts, chainsaws, and wood chippers

  • Valid driver's license (Class A or B CDL preferred)

  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects

  • Ability to learn quickly and to follow instructions

  • Must adhere to all safety requirements

Specific Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods climbing and standing on ladders and raised platforms at extreme heights.

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds for extended periods

  • Must be able to push or pull up to 70 pounds

  • Must be able to work in all types of weather and at extreme temperatures.

  • May be exposed to a higher-than-average risk of work-related injuries and illnesses from exposure to dangerous working conditions, machinery, and heights.

Compensation

  • $20-45 per hour based on experience

  • Monday through Friday with some Saturdays (No Sundays)

  • Paid time off accrued after 90 day probationary period
